You need size 5 DPNs

Cast on 40 stitches.
Join in the round.
Knit2 Purl2 for 3 inches.
Bind off.
Cover your favorite beverage.
Drink.

Cast on 48 stitches
Join in round.
Knit2 Purl2 for 2.5 inches for a ribbing or just knit for a roll top.
Knit in round for 6-7 inches
K2tog every 3rd stitch for one row.
Knit another round.
K2tog all the way around.
Knit another round.
K2tog around one last time.
Thread yarn with darning needle thru remaining stitches.
Secure on the underside.
Thread some beautiful ribbon(like Hannah Silk)around the edge.
Put on head
